We could detect an unusual amount of ozone in the air, and the hair on our arms and the back of our necks stood on end.  I started sweating inside my gas mask, and the radiation detector began to click.  It was definitely getting warmer, and the ground began to twitch under our feet.  Even so, we waited for the emergence of the brood of 97-year super-cicadas.
