The Last Challenge

By cTrix on December 30, 2012 7:06 pm

It's funny, you can spend an entire year... with 52 opportunities to achieve something that you are musically aiming for, but it still happens in the the last week, on the last day, in the last few hours.  I just watched the Weekly Beat Sun come up for the final time (recorded some morning sounds at the end!) - hence have finally capped off a year with the last challenge I'd set out for myself - to try and create something orchestral.
.
I'm on holiday away from my studio so this was made using a freeware VSTi plug in called DSK Overture.  It's about 90mb.  I did what I could with it.  I then layered a few bells and things in from my little QY70.  It's all I have with me!!  Mixed on a crappy pair of $20 headphones - I backed off the bass just in case, so hopefully it's not to weak.
.
Anyway - this is my last track for this year.  HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!  Thanks for the support :-)  If you've been in it to make music then I wish you luck in your future music endeavors.
.
Sleeeeep time.

I dig it man. Sounds great for a freeware VSTi tongue

Sounds great! Actually sounds amazing, that brass and woodwind actually rocks. What actually terrifies me is if this is with some crappy 90mb VST, imagine what you would have done with 30GB sample libraries... I can't believe you stayed up until 7am writing this track again!!...

yay. awesome! smile i demand that you do more orchestral stuff.. and yeah. it does sound great for a 90mb vst. happy new year!

i love the orchestral arrangement idea!  id be interested to hear what this sounds like with the full on orchestra/orchestra samples.  happy new year!  ive really enjoyed hearing your songs throughout 2012 and best of luck for the future smile

Really comes together when the drums start!  Orchestral now seems like a viable option again for my poor ass.

Kudos, btw, for all the crazy all-nighters you pulled this year mate!  Got a huge kick out of the consistently high level of quality of the tunes you churned out week-in, week-out.

Yeah that's a friggin' sweet sounding plugin really. Can you link me? Awesome piece, too. Well done mang!

http://www.dskmusic.com/dsk-overture/  It's almost 100% that thing.  Oh, only problem I had was it clicks like a mo-fo for no apparent reason.  I exported all the tracks out separately and declicked them then mixed the session from waveforms.   :-)

(ps. thanks for all the comments - much appreciated after my all nighter.... as I try and stay awake for my connecting flight home at Syd airport!)

WOW!

amazing, really. was a pleasure meeting you early in the year man thanks for the influence over the year smile

hope to see you at soundbytes next month big_smile

solemn music!! smile

yes and Happy New Year!! smile

Sleep well! Happy new year and happy musical adventures/endeavours in the future!

heart cTrix, you mad man. heart

Ctrix, you are one talented MFKER!  I think if you were trapped on a deserted island, you'd cobble together an EP out of snot and seaweed.  Really great ending to the year. Have enjoyed your range of musical styles throughout the year,  Happy new year and best for 2013!

So cool! It's almost clockwork orange...

Awesome work and nearly always on 'limiting' gear.  Well done!  I was hoping to do a full orchestral piece but never got round to it.  Consistently solid tunes dude.  Congrats.
