Sonic Escape

By cTrix on November 4, 2012 6:48 pm

A track that literally came out of nowhere!  It took me where it wanted to go.

- Guitar: Ibanez Jem 7v (all processing built in tools in Reaper)
- Elektron Machinedrum (a few hits)
- Some funk-soul break samples heavily re-cut
- Samples from an Ensoniq SQ-80
- PQL freeware VSTi (303 sounding thing - I left my 202 at home by mistake)
- Sinewave / Square wave generator (bass)

I was also working on this track as the same time (which is in the same key!) but rolled a dice and the more "chill" track won :-P

This is really awesome, how do you make such great clean guitar sounds? Really chill, sounds great, I love that bass when it comes in with that groove

Actually you know what, I really dig everything about that groove about 2/3 through, it's awesome

This is great. Needs some female vocal samples though. Reminds me a bit of the "Buddha Bar" type albums, or some of the Putumayo world music collections of electronic music.

awesome as always. very chilled out. the guitar sounds awesome! also. the machinedrum sounds great.. i have trouble getting mine to not sound metallic.. whats the secret? actually what's your process in general for mixing and mastering?

actually. its a little late. but i think ill start a forum post on mixing/mastering

sweet intro

Nice to hear some guitars with the electronics.  Smooth tune with direction.

Nice drums and guitar. Sounds really well produced. Like the double up on the guitar and synth where it gets harder at the end.  Nice work!

this is amazing, reminds me of listening to Massive Attack back in the 90s. kudos smile

Wow. This is a sensational listen, something Flaming Lips quality, especially towards the end.

Cant get over how rad this is.

That guitar has given you some new wings! Totally love this track.

Damn, that end part!

Smooth track, great last bit too. Everything sounds really shiny...

Well, I still don't understand how you make your tunes. Seems to me that you all your free time spend on music. Maybe music is a part of you work somehow, i don't know what kind of work you have. Also, this one is amazaing dreamly track. Sweet tune, for real. Hope to hear more tunes in same key

Most of my tunes are made in a 9 or 10 hour stretch.  This one I started at 8pm Sunday and finished at 6am Monday morning (AU time) hence the overnight dark feel.  The guitar took up most of the time; and chopping the drums up.  I was back in the same studio by midday the same day cutting a trailer for a documentary for a client.  BUT I always block out Monday mornings for weekly-sleeps time!!  My business (which doubles as a sound studio) is primarily a video editing / graphics design space but I built acoustic panels for the room and all my Synths and guitars live here now :-)   The whole building is full of studios, all privately owned, and we all work in TV post production.  A bunch of dudes here "used to be musicians" hence I can usually be sneaky and ask to borrow gear much of which I end up repairing and using unconditionally ;-)

Lounge-trix ---  I love that studio...

I love the guitar slides and the direction the music takes towards the end, gritty 303 (even if emulated!)

I'm envy smile Don't know how mortal can make amaznig songs from week to week. Maybe i'm just too young or have no talent)

Coming in pretty late (didn't have time to listen to all tracks last week). This made my Monday morning fun...and that is saying a lot. In other words, it is awesome.
