MSXed (MSX with FM expander)

By cTrix on September 23, 2012 11:55 pm

Track I made with The C-MEN while in The Netherlands.  Made with Moonblaster for the MSX. We were running both slots with FM expanders based on OPL2 and OPLL (a "lite" implementation of OPL)  but doubling the output to both expansion carts. One of the carts had a 22khz DAC on it, so we used that for the drums.  Most of this is 2 x FM osc's layered but because of the differing FM chipsets, the operators produce a slightly different sound which are mixed on output.  We were also twin tracking with detune on the bass and strings to get a wide chorus sound.  I've added a simple drum loop in the second half and a touch of DX7 (the beeps) but it's pretty true to the original MSX jam :-)

I've got a mini doco about the MSX.  I'll try and upload later.  Long live the MSX!
