Guitar Jammin' and DSP Fangin'

Just a short experiment in Reaper to see what I could do with the built in distortion / shape / amp sim's.  Answer is you can get away with using them... but only just!  (The amp sim is good).  Couldn't preview effects while playing so it was a little strange not being able to hear the guitar until after it was recorded!  Actually made some decent music this week (not this), but couldn't post it because it was for something specific :-(
.
This was also an excuse to play my poor old Strat copy that I've had since I was 9.  It's all about the last 20 seconds of the tune!!  Really need something with better pickups.  Anyone want to come guitar shopping with me?
.
Drums: Drummix played with Pads
Guitar: Maton stereo miked with Rode NT4
Bass: Old yamaha DI's.  Just compression
Electric: Strat copy with 5 year old strings / Reaper built in "guitar" effects

you could definitely get away with this with better pickups, but this one really sings in that last bit like you say!
