Discovery (Rockit 8bit open source synth)

By cTrix on February 12, 2012 7:28 pm

Made with Rockit 8bit experimental open source Synth rev 1.0.  The whole thing is the one module (it's a monosynth) recored in layers.  It didn't come together as expected - but this was ultimately a test to pick up any flaws that bugged me in the firmware and I found a few!  Like the attack on it's fastest setting is waaaaay too slow (all notes are smoothed off big time) and the filter on the DAC is a bit muffled.  But hey, you got to play around to figure this stuff out!  It all clashes a little in the mix on occasion - esp those arps - and the bloody modulation CC isn't implemented yet!! (noooooo!)   Thanks to Trash80 for lending me his Shruthi-1 even if i didn't use it (discovered a MIDI CC reset on DAW Stop/Start was doing crazy things) :-)

fun stuff!  looks like a fun piece of equipment smile

Really nice sounds though. Cool piece.   New Stuff

Man, really incredible.

this track came on while i was elsewhere (reading homestuck) and I would've never guessed it was you. awesome track, really cool departure of style

very cool!

really great synth sounds man big_smile

very fun to listen to !

>  I would've never guessed it was you

I think it's because I never write using Piano roll mode.  I usually either play live takes (because non of my synths have MIDI that works!) or use a tracker.  It's kinda fun exploring what I come up with using a piano roll :-]  Thanks for kind words also.  Any CC also appreciated.

I can't think of anything constructive or critical to say other than "fuuuuuh I like this a lot"

Nice track dude! I'm listening to the tracks you played for RRR right now with your DMG too...you are a God amongst men wink

Interesting track dude. This does sound a lot different to what you usually write, not just sound wise. I guess that's because you said you wrote it in piano roll? It's such a huge difference!

Nice on. Love the melodic lines

amazing!

I dig the arps that sound like lead guitar lines and the snakey bass line.

Great stuff!  My unpopulated PCB still sits... I might be interested in a burned chip with your new firmware though. big_smile

Theta - not sure if I'll ever have time to finish the waveform programmer / generator for it - I hope I do!  In which case I guess I will be able to pump out revised firmwares :-)  Bit more nfo is at: http://hackmeopen.com/?page_id=193&vasthtmlaction=viewtopic&t=27.0

I shall call you from now on: Chris Follin.
