OK, backtracking to what I was thinking last week... I think that I had little time and an approaching deadline, so I'd recycle a lot of the sounds from the previous week. Tweaked some, but basically all the same sounds. I spent a lot of time on the intro, getting the build to sound smooth and natural, then realized I needed to write some melodies/hooks.
The chord progression here is based on a jam I did that week with some guys I play with. It started in D minor, went to D dorian, then eventually to D major, and finally back to D minor. I added an A7 and compressed the whole thing to 8 bars.
The Rhodes-y part was fun, because I initially had it go from D minor to D major at the barline, then realized that it was more fun to hold onto the minor tonality into the first bar. I thiiiiink the chords are Dm11 to D13, but it might be something different. Sounds fun and jazzy, so dig.
I wanted to add another voice, something sweet and warbly up top, but the deadline was approaching and Ableton was being difficult, so I took it as a sign to wrap up.
The title because it felt to me like a suspenseful late night pursuit scene from a spy film.
