Water Bear Formal Wear

By CosmicCairns on December 1, 2020 7:20 pm

This was just kind of a fun exercise in thinking of mostly ridiculous things that don't exist.  Or at least, not to the best of my knowledge.  I'm sure a highly skilled assassin could use a spoon to get the job done, but I'm guessing it's not generally their weapon of choice.  At any rate, I'm just trying to have a little fun as the year starts to wind down here.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

There are no hypochondriac dogs
There are no megalomaniac frogs
There are no buildings made out of air
There are no dances for water bears
Requiring formal wear
As they glide along across the floor
Their favorite song blasts across the room
As they gaze into the eyes of their tardigrade love

There are no stars of hot flaming ice
There are no demon spawn that are nice
There are no taco stands on the moon
There are no assassins wielding spoons
As they make their move
Taking down some V.I.P. they've been hired to kill
By some rival who hopes to gain something he lacks
Scene fades to black

There are no dodos left anymore
There are no breakdancing dinosaurs
There are no weekends that are too long
There are no more words left in this song

This is awesome man!  Cool idea for a tune, great vocals, great production all around.  Totally getting an @ipaghost vibe from the title too.

A real tearjerker though

Thanks!  The title just kind of popped in my mind and I thought it was a funny image and then the rest of the song kind of grew out of that.

It IS kind of sad that some of these things don't exist.

Beautiful track but I disagree with some of the assertions.  My dog is a hypochondriac and we do not know the minds of frogs but of the few I have observed, borderline personality disorders, meglomania, paranoia all seem to be rampant. Have you seen the new series (American adaptation) for Utopia.  SPOILER: Assassin with a spoon! But seriously, fun lyrics that invite you to imagine along. Out of all the goodies in this song, I have to give a shout out to the bass guitar! Nice to hear it taking a more prominent role.  I am left with a feeling of sadness at the thought of no taco stands on the moon though smile. Soon.

A simple and logical song. true talk. musically beautiful. great work on the guitar. well done.

Is there really a show with an assassin using a spoon?  That's hilarious.  That was actually the line I thought would most likely be refuted since as I mentioned a really good assassin can probably MacGyver a weapon out of anything.  This is definitely why it's always dangerous to talk in absolutes.  I'm pretty sure there's currently no taco stands on the moon, but I agree that I hope that situation changes in the future.  Some frogs really do seem like they'd be jerks.  And heck, Kermit the Frog must have some element of megalomania if he has the gall to claim himself the leader of the Muppets.  As for dogs, I don't doubt that some of them are divas, but it's my understanding that they're really good at hiding pain.  I hear it's an evolutionary tactic so they're not picked off as the weak link.  Basically if your doggy starts acting funny or shows pain, it's probably a good idea to take it seriously.  One of my dogs recently started acting weird and we came to find he's got some kind of nasty infection that's causing liver inflammation.  He seems to be responding pretty well to treatment so far, but it's definitely good to believe your dog when they show signs of not feeling well.  Anyway, that's my PSA for today.

Thanks!  There are a lot of times when it feels appropriate to write abstract lyrics, but sometimes you just want to speak in some plain truths.

Lots of baseless accusations in this song, but it sounds very romantic nonetheless.

It's truly nothing but propaganda and lies.  I'm already in the preliminary stages of an even more outrageous sequel, which asserts there's no such thing as algebra, trombones, parakeets, or the city of Cleveland.

It's lovely lilting flow, but these lyrics steal the show! Great stuff, and great singing. Man water bears. So cool. What if they were huge? that was in a movie ... or  person got small and saw one, was that Ant Man? That exchange with you and NWSPR is awesome. Yeah, that spoon stuff ... I like the warbly synth around 2:30 during the guitar solo, or is that some wah wah? Go warbles.

Thanks!  Yeah, I think these might be my favorite lyrics from the whole year.  And yeah, I think that was in one of the Ant Man movies.  He shrank small enough that a water bear looked gigantic. It was pretty cool.  As for that warbly synth, yeah I got a little "crazy" and ran my microkorg through my guitar wah pedal.  I thought it sounded pretty cool.

These lyrics are so great. I also love the song you've wrapped them in. smile

I love the concepts of your songs! The theme of these lyrics is very poetic. The music is well adapted to the track, great choice of instrumentation. My 7 years old is dancing next to me while listening to this track. smile

Hahaha, the lyrics are great!

Thank you.  Sometimes I don't know where I'm going with lyrics, but these ones just kind of flowed easily and were fun to come up with.

this is a list of things I didn't know I needed.

I like the hi-hat keeping the beat without a full drum kit sound.  You don't always need it.

I agree it's not always needed, but it's an aesthetic choice I make pretty much based on my personal limitations.  I would like a full drum sound sometimes but I don't own a drumkit, don't have space for one, and most importantly I'm not a drummer.  I do hear there are some really kickass virtual drumkits these days so that's an option I should probably explore at some point.  Time's always an issue in terms of research and learning to use them.  I'll have some more time opening up now that I'm not rushing to complete a song every week, but my first order of business is I want to improve my mixing skills so I'm going to pour a bunch of time into that.  Fun stuff.
I've been making music a long time and there's always more to learn and something to improve on...

Awesome lyrics smile  I like the tragic star crossed loverish feel to the vocals on the chorus.

Thanks!  The lyrics were fun to do on this one and it did feel like there was a bit of a tragic quality in there somehow.
