Star Cruiser XXK7

Jamming around on an out of tune guitar, I thought it actually sounded sort of cool so I decided to lean into it and make some purposely dissonant sounds over a bassline and some spacy synths.  Added a bit of popcorn tin percussion and set sail.

A satisfying journey, whirlpools and all.

Could be a new Dr. Who theme! Spacey and trippy at the same time. Guitar work is pretty cool but I like the weird Devoesque synths.

Just a suggestion... an entire popcorn tin drum set with two of those big holiday popcorn tins as double kicks and some jiffy pop crash cymbals. Maybe some pringles roto toms thrown in smile

Thanks!  Sometimes the whirlpools are the best part I think...

I can see the Dr. Who thing for sure.  Also, if I had the space for it, I'd love to build some sort of homemade drum kit.  Maybe someone will give me another popcorn tin for Christmas this year that will have a little bit different timbre to it...

I'm getting a great space cowboy vibe on this one! Great progression, feels story driven, the ending is awesome!

I love the in-your-face soundworld of this one. Has even some of that early Pink Floyd flavour! The end part is especially gorgeous. Great!

Thanks!  I kind of felt like the ending maybe involved the spaceship arriving at another star system or something.  At least that was the vibe I was getting as I played it.

I think I was channeling a little early Floyd on this one.  Thanks!

A nice mix between flashy sci-fi, and really old-fashioned sci-fi.

Good space travel music. Tuning is overrated, maybe. Good to hear the popcorn tin again. An old fave. Love the flangy spacey delays.

I remember reading an essay a long time ago by one of the guys in Half Japanese that was basically there aren't any "rules" and you can tune your guitar however the heck you want to and I thought that was a cool idea.  I still usually go for boring old standard tunings though, but I think there's something to be said for strange tuning or outright out of tune...

This space is the place to be! Makes me think of classic psychedelia and 60's science fiction movies.
In my opinion: as long as the results sound this good, who cares how the instruments used were tuned.

Awesome.  That was definitely the vibe I was going for.  And I agree, tuning is just another tool you can use in your arsenal, but there's not necessarily any one "right" way.
