Clown Karma

I wanted to try building a track out of self-samples after seeing some tracks like that here on Weekly Beats.  I went back to a song I did in 2018 called Cassiopeia Express and pulled out 3 snippets of it, which I applied reverb to and then looped.  I added some new bass to it and a tiny smidge of electric guitar at the end that's barely noticeable.  A couple of times  I ran the loops backwards just to add a bit of variety to the proceedings.  If you want to see how it compares to the original it was my week 37 track for 2018, or alternatively I just put together a collection of songs from past years of Weekly Beats as an album on bandcamp and I placed it as the opening track.  The link for that is here: https://cosmiccairns.bandcamp.com/album/in-the-weeds

Had to go back and listen to the 2018 version first.  Did I catch the popcorn tin in there??

Cool stuff man, the remix is tweaked enough that it feels like a completely different song.

Yeah, I remember now I was originally just going to use a pre-programmed drumbeat and then got all the way to the end of the song somehow without realizing there was a horrible hissing noise on the drum track.  So I added the popcorn tin to kind of "disguise" it and it somehow worked.  It was fun to pull out a few snippets and see the track mutate into something different and unrecognizable.  I might have to play around some more with doing that sort of thing.

Psychedelic, baby! Sweet sounds, makes me want to do a self-remix too.

It was for sure a fun thing to try.  If nothing else, you end up with some interesting results!

Wow, man your sounds and range are blowing up this year! It's pretty cool to see what you come up with each week (no pressure). This sounds like a psychedelic orchestra.  Deconstructed into something completely new. I like that higher melody that emerges in the second half. Sweet!

Thanks!  I'm mostly just trying to keep things interesting for myself over here.  smile

This sounds awesome! Swimming around in the wash of washiness. I hear mysterious things happening. Need some headphones. Sampling ones-self is always good call in my book. There's often more to found. Layers to the self onion. Grabbed your album on Bandcamp. Nice!

It really is cool to find new angles and new layers to stuff you think is familiar.  I definitely see some more possibilities for self-sampling in the future.  And thanks for downloading the album!  That's much appreciated.

I thought it sounded familiar. It feels like an echo of the song.

Thanks!  I suppose it kind of really is an echo of the original song.

this track is different and atypical in a very surprisingly good way. The sound is so nicely in stereo and like a mantra, it took me on a journey. This might be the beginning of a new chapter. Thumbs up.

Thanks!  I definitely think I see some new avenues to be explored, which is always a good thing!

Great reworking! Very etheral and somehow soothing in a chaotic way... I love the change at 1.23. Cool stuff! Nice to hear your more electronic stuff too... it has some of the same fine qualities and personality as your more pop oriented song-based stuff

This version definitely has that psychedelic sorta meditative feel because of the awesome wash of reverb throughout.  Nice job!

Thanks!  I like having different modes to work in.  It keeps things interesting and, after all, they are still 2 sides of the same coin that is me.

I think reverb can be awesome and this seemed like a good time to go all in on it.  Thanks for listening!

Great repurposing of older material.  Really enjoyable piece.   A lovely wash.

Thanks!  It was a fun experiment to twist an old track into a new shape.
