Bright Morning Dawning

By CosmicCairns on July 7, 2020 7:47 pm

Several weeks ago Modulated Drummer posted a drum sample pack he created with a bunch of really cool drum loops which he offered up for use.  I decided to grab one of them for this week and use it as the basis to build the track around.  The drum loop I used was about 45 seconds long and I was originally going to just keep looping it continuously throughout the track, but then something about the way it cut out on its own made me think it would be cool to go an a little ambient excursion before bringing the drums back for another more rocking section.  Then I liked that effect so I did another ambient excursion at the end to close things out.  Anyway, big shout out to Modulated Drummer for creating such an awesome drum part in the first place, which allowed me to construct the rest of the track!

Awesome man, very cool idea for that big ambient break.  Made the rock parts before & after sound that much more rocking.  Big fan of that guitar riff in the 2nd guitar part, super catchy.  Nice work on the outro too, sounds like something you'd hear on a Mars Volta album.

I was waiting for the rocking part to be back impatiently... really like the punky bass and the synths.

Really sweet ambient excursion... and then... WAKE UP!! I love the balance between fast and slow.

Great use of the drums, but it feels like you couldn't quite hit the high note with the guitar around the end.

The bass is PUNK! It works well with that awesome drum beat. And after the ambient time, I like the punk guitar lines at 1:30. This track has like the innocence of a good old punk track, mixed with atmospheric lines. I am not sure what it is but it's nice.

Thanks!  I honestly had no pre-conceived ideas when I started the track.  I just took that drum part and let it guide me where it wanted to.  I like how the effect of the ambient breaks turned out.

Thanks!  Hopefully having to wait a little bit for it made its return all the more satisfying.

It was kind of a spur of the moment decision, but I like the way the contrast between the fast and slow parts came out, too.

The guitar might have been a little out of tune.  Sometimes I get lazy about checking the tuning when I just want to record.

The bass was the first part I came up with so I definitely tried to really key it into those drums.  And it was definitely fun to mix the rocking sections with the ambient sections.

Ah that resonating warbling sine section is so nice, I would listen to a whole track of that. Nice guitar playing!

Thanks!  Maybe I'll have to do a track of something like that section.

Love that filthy bass!  Some serious contrast to the ambience.  Nice.

Bouncing around my chair as this starts ... then what a deep breath of fresh air for that ambient part, and oh boy here we go, nice guitar playing there. Fun times here, awesome that you used those drums, sometimes starting with a pre-made part can lead to great things and take you to new places!

Love that guitar riff.

Thanks!  That was one of the funnest bass parts I've done this year so far I think.

Thanks!  I agree about using pre-made parts.  Having those drums in place allowed me to go in a direction I probably wouldn't have on my own.

Thanks!  I had the drums and bass in place and that guitar part just seemed to kind of click in naturally.

Another fun moving track with the drums.  The rock-ambient-rock was a nice touch especially on that fill coming back into the beat.  Beautiful sounding pads at the outro.

Very Cool Ying-Yang Lesson!

Thanks!  I actually did that fill myself on the old popcorn tin.  It felt like it needed something to get back into the main drums.

Yeah, I enjoyed the contrast between the sections.  I might need to play some more with that kind of thing.

that's a super wild idea to use the silence.  you are so wildly creative with stuff like that - heart

Love that middle break.  Otherwise all punk rock acid jazz which is pretty awesome as well. Second half packs a wallop!

Thanks!  Right before I was about to just loop the drums I noticed the cutting out effect was kind of cool.  It was one of those spur of the moment decisions that took the track in a whole different direction.

Thanks!  I thought this was going to be all the the punk rock stuff and then I was happily surprised with how the ambient sections fit and turned out.

Yo Cosmic!

Sorry I'm late to the party.

First, How's it going? Second, THIS IS AWESOME!

I really dig what you did with the loop. It's so fun to hear it come to life. Thanks for collaborating dude, that made my day for sure.

I was wondering if you'd be ok with me making a Modulated Drummer video highlighting what you did with the loop/ sharing your weekly beats page so people can check out your other weekly tracks?

No worries.  Glad you were able to check it out and thanks again for the awesome loop.  It was fun getting inspired from it.  And yeah, that would be totally cool if you make a video.
