Wings of Aurora

By Cosmic Cairns on April 27, 2022 5:51 pm

This week I'm writing from the perspective of the Northern Lights.  Or a being whose wings are made out of them.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Lights flaring green and I'll spread out my wings
And it's time to start soaring through the skies
I look below at the white arctic snow
As I fly over oceans of pure ice
Wings of aurora spreading all around the poles
And I don't even feel the cold winds blow
The time without the sun just seems to pass so slow
And it's my job to set the sky aglow
Long endless nights, but I'll set them alight
As I glide on my wings of purest green
Look up above and I'll shower you with love
As you breathe in the air so crisp and clean
I'll always try my best to light the sky for you
And no one ever asks if I feel blue
It's an exhausting task but I will see it through
There's nothing else that I'd know how to do
I'll spread my wings of aurora
I'll spread my wings far and wide

Man, your tracks put a smile on my face. There is something in the outrageously enthusiastic accoustic guitars and your singing style, it's just so positive, even when there is a nostalgic vibe. Your tracks sounds like childhood, for some reason. And the usage of a saw is just perfect!

Here and now you bring all heavenly elements together, to make our sky glow as it never glowed before. It is a unreal but also a very real place you are singing of. Nobody talked or sang of it in such a fairytale-like way before as you did today, or I did not hear of it until you presented a beeing with wings specialized on lighteffects in the arctis. such beautiful fantasy you have. The music is rich and full of effects as well.
The guitar and drums are phasing and your saw is giving its best until it glows, too. First a litlle pianosolo and later the guitarsolo in a storm of electrosmog. The organ in the end with ominous energiebows brings us back to the cold icy world. Puhh, this is really epic like christmas or easter. thanks, for everything.

i was bopping around to this & theeen the saw came in & elicited claps of delight & a an "oooooh" when the synth stuff came in - so lovely/fun! then ending was really really pretty! the piece captures the Aurora vibes so well - i would love to be able to see them in person someday - did you get to see them with all the recent solar activity?  they are not visible where i live

Is that a musical saw on this track? Or a synth? Delight is what it is.

Life-affirming positivity here. Need more music like this.

Thanks!  I mostly have fond memories of childhood, so I like the idea of invoking it sometimes.  It's always fun to include some saw and this seemed like a good track for it.

Thanks for listening and for the nice comment.  I enjoyed trying to inhabit the northern lights and try to make the world and all the instrumentation light up.

I thought the saw fit well with this one so I made sure to include it.  I don't want to force it into every song or get tired of it, but when it feels appropriate such as here it's always fun to put it in.  I live way too far south to see the northern lights.  It's on my bucket list of something I for sure want to see someday.  They look incredible from pictures.

It's a musical saw.  Just a little something I picked up somewhere along the way.  It's popped up in a few of my tracks already this year and I'm sure it'll be back a few times before the year is over.  Thanks for listening!

Love that singing saw, tasteful applied here, brings to mind a band called Black Heart Procession that I saw years ago… And the organ/electric piano sound around 3 min, super nice. Don’t know if you’re familiar with His Dark Materials, but your lyrics in this one make me think of the (good-hearted) witches flying over the ice and with the wild aurora in the sky from that series. Really tasteful outtro there, could be a whole track in itself. smile

I'm not familiar with Black Heart Procession, but I just read a little about them and they sound interesting.  I'll have to check them out.  I did see the first season of His Dark Materials and I think I remember the scene you're talking about.  I remember the polar bears were pretty cool.  The outro was the last thing I added because I felt like the track was ending a little too abruptly and needed a little something more so in a way the outro was a separate track that I tacked on.  I could see it sitting all by itself as well though for sure.

Very pretty, much like the northern lights themselves.

Thanks!  The northern lights are pretty and a good source of inspiration!

Great vocals and mix. Super catchy bass line and melodies. You keep out doing yourself each week!

Thanks!  I'm trying to improve my skills but also not take things too seriously and have fun while doing so.  I feel pretty good with how it's been going.  Always room for improvement!

Awesome vocal harmonies.  The musical saw really adds to those harmonies as well. Ohhh and sweet synth solos and ear candy! Yais!

Thanks!  I was pretty happy with how those vocal harmonies turned out.  And the saw always adds another beautiful voice to the mix.

Happy bouncing classic you here. Great lyric and vocal, enjoying this, I want to go see the lights and feel this feeling!

Me too!  I hope I get to see them in person someday.
