A cool Syd Barrett feel to this.  Great mix of sounds.  I'm the opposite regarding song titles as I create and then listen back and see what I conjure up in my mind from the music.

Hearing a popcorn tin being referred to as a viable instruments still makes me laugh not because it's a dumb idea, but because I understand that it is a  valid instrument. Thank you for showing me the way. The track holds together really well, though the ending was what I liked the most. There are other things happening outside of this song, this moment or event, and sometimes what we believe is imporant enough to focus on at the moment is really just one part of a greater or different "song" in life. The sirens blaring in the distance moves us to think about other "songs" in life. Really cool.

Yeah something definitely resonated with me when that idea hit.  It was like I was getting a little glimpse into the future or something and it was kind of cool.

Yeah, it's sort of an ongoing thing for me.  If I think of something I'll write it down for later use.

I used to operate that way with song titles back when I recorded on 4-track cassette.  I think the shift to using the computer changed my mode to coming up with song titles sooner partially because I wanted to save files early on so I wouldn't lose the work I had done and I had to come up with a name for the file.  I started out trying to just use placeholder names but a lot of times those names just ended up sticking and now I'm kind of in the habit of either coming up with a title really early on in the process or before I even start.  (Funny example that pops to mind:  When I first started using my computer I was doing a song that I temporarily titled "Folk Tune" because my early idea involved just acoustic guitar and vocals.  By the time I finished it, it had evolved into something that didn't sound like a folk song in the slightest, but I had gotten so used to calling it "Folk Tune" by that time that the name stuck.)

Ah yes, that makes sense.  I think my way still works cause I usually use Ableton as an overqualified tape machine to record my modular tracks which are usually one take so once I record it in, it's virtually done.  Time to name the track when rendering out even before I save the recording sometimes.  Haha.

I like the philosophical lyrics a lot! The music has very cosy campfire feeling to it and works so well with the positive message. The end part is even a bit psychedelic....Great!!!

For the effect at the end I ran the microphone through a tremelo effect on a digitech vocal processor.  Then at the very end I added some heavy reverb on top of that.

Yeah for a one take performance it would be a lot easier.  Most of my tracks utilize a lot of takes and there's nothing more frustrating than getting really far along and then having a crash or something and realizing you didn't save.  I've had that happen a couple times and now I try to save early and often.

Thanks!  The last time I tried to record myself singing while inebriated I'd have to say the results were pretty bad, so now I just try to approximate the effect while completely sober.

I love this, the mix of instruments is awesome but more than anything, the concept and lyrics really make it. This is very nice. Good idea also to keep a book of song ideas!

Yeah I remember we've talked about it before and it's definitely something I've thought about semi-often.  The eternal mystery of music.  Where does it come from and why do a series of noises come together to form something greater than the sum of their parts?  It was pointed out to me recently that the good old popcorn tin hadn't made an appearance for a while, so I brought it back for this one.  It'll probably make another comeback before the end of the year, which is approaching rapidly!

Well it's an old popcorn tin someone gave me for Christmas several years ago.  The popcorn is long gone and it was after it was empty I noticed it would make a decent percussive instrument.  It would be interesting to try it with various levels of popcorn in it to see if it changes the sound or if nothing else to use it as a giant shaker.

To be fair, nothing's stopping anyone from playing a song that doesn't exist yet, it's how songs come to be in the first place after all.

Wait... is that how songs are created???  I had no idea.  To be fair, I'm not trying to imply that anything is preventing people from writing songs.  In fact, this is very specifically about songs that will exist.  So people are 100% for sure going to play them someday.  But now that I think about it I'd actually say you literally can't play a song that doesn't exist.  Once it's played it instantly loses it's non-existent status.  But really that's just semantics.  Honestly I was looking at a list of song titles that I was planning on writing songs about, but haven't yet.  Hence, I can't play them.  Yet.  That's all the song's about.  Nothing's stopping anyone from making movies that don't exist yet either, but we can't watch them until someone makes them.

I realize I don't have to hear a song to make it exist.  There are countless songs that have been recorded that I've never heard and I don't deny their existence.  But I do know that as long as humans are around they will continue to make music.  In the year 3000 there will be songs that don't exist now.  Heck, next week on Weekly Beats a hundred or so new tracks will be posted that don't exist yet.  But they will.  That's all I'm trying to talk about.   It's an ode to creativity really.  Anything else is beyond the scope of this song.  I do like the idea of trying to create lyrics through random typing, but I don't know how I would pronounce something like dsfytwsddfhehryrweeuyopqw.  I guess I could do my best approximation.  That could be fun.

I really dig that new trippy flute sound.  And the acoustic guitar and bass sound really full with your vocals.  Big collage of sounds. It's like peering into the great infinite imagination scape of future songs in your head.

Thanks!  That's probably the pan flute you're talking about.  I'm not good enough with it yet to play anything super complex, but it sounds pretty cool to me.  I need to practice with it some more though to fully unlock it's potential.
