Silver Siphons

By Cosmic Cairns on July 5, 2022 10:04 pm

As I mentioned last week, I try my best to keep my music a fun happy place for my mind to go.  I can absolutely enjoy music that engages with politics head on and I don't have any hard fast rules that I can never address what's going on in the world myself, but overall I prefer to see making music as a bit of a place of respite and calm from the storm of the outside world.  Nonetheless I can tell the sense of malaise I've been feeling with recent developments crept into my lyrics this week.  I've been feeling very angry and frustrated with political developments and it's occupied a lot of my mental space lately.  I did shoot off a few fireworks on the 4th of July with family and I enjoyed that aspect of it, but I'm not feeling super "Yay!  America!" this year.  I still tried to inject a little of my escapist tendencies into this one though.  Can't seem to help it, especially when a lot of times all I want to do is escape.  Here's hoping for some stuff to feel better about!

Sometimes I wish it was yesterday
Tomorrow's forecast is cold and gray
Could use an invention to save the day
Something to siphon the crud away

Something that's pure maybe made out of silver
And cured in the fires of the Earth
To help see things different, from a better vantage point
And stop the rain from falling on me

Sometimes I wish that I was elsewhere
Another planet with cleaner air
And different people that I could bear
Instead of these psychos lurking everywhere

As long as I'm dreaming, I'd also like to fly
And have the power to talk to dogs
At least give me something, my magic silver siphons
To stop the sleet from freezing my bones

Awesome man.  This mix is so full, it sounds great.  The epic, musical outdo is sweet too.  Definitely covers a lot of ground.

Your vocals feels great. This is a feel good song that feels like 70's pop rock tracks.

Beside the excellent lyrics, I am impressed by your instrumental performance in here. the song is so rich and full of sounds. a real treasure. the songwriting and mixing worked very well. the drumming is unbelievable good. how did you do the drums? I love the start and ending with the chilli peppers californiacation/venice queen (if you mingle those 2 songs together) guitarsound. Btw, I have seen them live on 05.07.2022 in Cologne. WOW.

Thanks!  I felt pretty good with how this turned out and I had fun putting together the outro for sure.

Thanks!  I always feel like vocals can be a bit tricky, so glad to hear they're working!

I've been using a virtual drumkit this year and I'm learning more and more of what it's capable of as the year progresses.  You can build some pretty cool drum parts by mixing and matching drum patterns and inserting fills and whatnot.  It's not as good as a real drummer, but it works in a pinch.

I thought you were going to burst in with Apache as it's the same guitar interval at the start.  haha.
This has a real psyche pop type vibe to it.  Lots of interesting parts and sounds going on.

Again really enjoying your lyrics as they hit close to home.  The music gives it an uplifting/hopeful feel.  Cool synth ear candy and excellent guitar melodies.  Well done!

Really enjoyed the lyrics for this one. That last verse made me laugh.

I'm ready, and off we go on a Cosmic journey. Dreaming and flying, talking to dogs, YES YES. And a dog barked, all those little background sounds. This is epic. Classic CC. Maybe the Webb telescope will find us a place to go with cleaner air. I'll join ya.

I love the poetry of your lyrics. Like this line about the power to talk to dogs, embellished with dog samples, is just a magic little gem of poetic love. There is always this childhood like levity to your tracks that I always find refreshing, even though it deals with a sadder theme. This felt like a really nice little trip back to simpler times, with marbles in my pocket, running through the forest with friends.

Ha!  Apache.  I haven't heard that song in a long time.  I guess they do start the same!

Thanks!  I imagine a lot of people are feeling something somewhat akin to this these days.

I couldn't help but add a little bit of silliness/whimsy to the proceedings.  Thanks for listening!

Yeah the Webb telescope is pretty cool.  Maybe it will spot a suitable new home out there somewhere.

Thanks!  I think it's important to maintain some connection/memory of childhood going.  I always feel like I could use a little more magic in my world.

such a beautifully uplifting track, and yet doesn't go overboard with the good-feels, keeps a respectable amount of edginess in the lyrics to allow folks to vibe off of how you launch far off into a joyous space from this bit of darkness(and i like the slightly out-of-tune feel on some of the guitars... makes me listen more closely but still keeps enough in tune that it adds the right tension to this general uplifting feeling)

Thanks!  I was coming from a little bit of a dark place for sure, but I tried to inject some light into the proceedings.  It's not in my nature to be too gloomy for too long.

Once again super appreciate listening to your music. I can hear a bit of the darker side here for sure, a little more melancholy than some of your other tracks, but also a vision for something better. Enjoyed the listen. Guitars from 2 minutes on are a really journey.

Thanks for coming back and checking out an older track.  I feel like I'm a bit of an optimistic pessimist.  I sort of expect the worst but I continue to hope for the best.  smile
