Marshmallow Mattress

By Cosmic Cairns on May 25, 2016 2:38 am

I decided to dig through my collection of musical instruments and try to put together something with some hopefully interesting textures.  Sounds include acoustic guitar, mandolin, ukulele, musical saw, cello, wordless vocals, whistling, water bottle percussion, soda can percussion, synths, and harmonica.  Oh yeah, and a sample of a crackling fire.  I think that's everything.  Hope you enjoy.

Wow, that's a lot of (domesticated) instruments. Well-coordinated and well-employed. smile)

Love the textures!

And the saw!

This is great.  I feel like I am sailing at sea listening to the ships' crew play me a lullaby while the sun sets.

Yeah, I've built up a decent little collection over the years.  It's nice to put them to use sometimes.

Thank you kindly!  I really do enjoy busting out the saw once in awhile.

Yeah, that's a good image for this.  Thanks!

Oh yeah, the saw, wow! I want to play with one! I remember seeing the band Black Heart Procession using a saw for the first time, I was amazed. I picture sitting around a fire with group playing this, nice.

I actually have two saws.  One is specifically supposed to be a "musical saw."  The other one is an actual functioning saw I pulled out of a friend's garage.  Both work great.  I use a cello bow, since I have a cello, too.  But you could probably use a violin bow or whatever you can find on the cheap.  They're fun to play around with for sure.

Nice campfire Jam

Thanks!  It does evoke a bit of a campfire vibe, doesn't it?

This is so good! I've listened to this a few times now. Awesome job, E!

Thanks!  I would actually say this might be the most work I've put into an individual track so far this year.
