Lilac Girl

By Cosmic Cairns on January 26, 2022 11:17 pm

I've had the first line of this stuck in my head for a few months now and I'm finally getting around to writing full lyrics and recording it.  This is the first usage of both guitars and vocals for me this year.

Lilac Girl I hope you're happy in your world and in your time
In the fields the bees are buzzing following some internal rhyme
Can you feel the currents in the air?
Close your eyes and let them pull you there
Over the moon across the Milky Way
Far from the cold and boredom of today

Lilac Girl I hope you're secure in your heart and in your mind
Travel in a true direction what you seek I'm sure you'll find
Don't forget the stars are always there
Brilliant suns are shining everywhere
All of the time all through the day and night
Behind the clouds beyond the pale blue sky

Lilac Girl I don't know if our paths will ever cross again
May your travels lead to safe shores and a life that's full of wins
Just don't let the world crush your soul
Find the good wherever you may go
Even when it's obscured within the mist
Know you're a fire that burns through all of this

Guitar, bass, vocals, and handdrums! And some synth too!

I love the lyrics for this, and your voice really brings them to life.

Oh man, I really love this tune. Beautiful melody and lyrics. I really dig your vocal delivery too. I'll be coming back to this one!

Oh yeah.  All of the above.

Thanks!  It's my first time singing in a little while.  Had to dust off the vocal pipes.

Thanks!  I felt a little rusty on vocals, but it was good to bust 'em out for the first time in a while.

Love when the drums come in and the sounds become kind of magical. It builds into a real Wes Anderson like production.

Those strings are beyond sweet, as is the whole track really. Magical. Love the lyrics. Nice guitar and the galloping beat gallops things along nicely.

Very nice songwriting on this one.  Each verse has a nice and long phrase structure, so its far from boring.  I definitely 2nd the folks who are saying this has a magical vibe to it.  Love the hard panned vocal takes too, it sounds really cool to hear the slight variations in different ears.

Very cool to hear you in a song mode again. This somehow evokes thoughts of Syd Barrett solo work for me. It´s human and strangely cosmic too. Probably it is that gorgeous string synth sound giving the uplifting mood in sections... Nice lead work again with the guitar. Nice one!

YEEEEEEEAAAAAAHHHH! CosmicCairns singing so fine. Beautiful string-arrangement and goosebumps guitarsolo included. What more do we need?

Thanks.  Maybe I should call Wes up and see if he wants to direct the music video.

Thanks!  A little magical galloping is always good for the soul.

Thanks!  I do like the vocal doubling effect.

Thanks!  It felt good to get into song mode again although it felt like I had to shake a little rust off.

Aw, you're far too kind.  I'll for sure get some more singing and guitar in this year.  It just takes more work to write lyrics, so some weeks it's easier to crank out an instrumental.  But when I have time and inspiration there will be some more in this vein.

Magical vibes indeed!  Really cool vocal panning with the drums and guitar.  Well done!

Thanks!  It's always nice to conjure up a little magic.

so good to hear your voice again.  good call using the synth as a string section.  I did lose the rhythm for a second at one point, but that also does add to the mystery of "where are we going" which I really like about your work.  I really have no idea what to expect!  felt like a sunny day in a magical forest.

I may not be a lilac girl, but these words hit me the good way

I was feeling a little not in the singing mood to start the year out, but it felt like time to do something with some vocals.  I probably could have put a little more time and effort into making the percussion a little better, but this weekly deadline is a killer.  And that's even without making videos like some fancy people!  smile

Thanks!  In all honesty I don't know any lilac girls, but it sounded like a good turn of phrase to me.

Apparently it's a book about 3 women during WW2, but I'd like to think it's about a girl with Lilac hair, lost in her own identity

But, I mean, that's just my interpretation of it (along with a little self-injection), I don't know what you had in mind

vocal stereo is sweet!

Like lilac in my ears

Lilac for the ears sounds like a good description.  Might have to use that sometime.
