Koala Kryptonite

By Cosmic Cairns on June 15, 2022 8:08 pm

An instrumental this week built around a bass line with a lot of layers of synths and some guitars.

Enjoy the vibe of this one. Something kind of melancholy in it. I like the way you add in variation to keep it interesting through out.

Remarkable soundstage / spatiality to this. The minimalism of the trip hop drums and the psychedelic logic to the whole thing work well. Surprisingly heavy tune, given the light smack of that rimshot (my favorite part is how light the drums are when everything else isn't, e.g. 2:55-ish). Agree w/ hent03 about the melancholy aspect.

Thanks!  I started with just the bass and couldn't resist adding more and more parts on top.

Thanks!  I kind of just liked the feel of that beat and went with it from there.

Really like that bass. There is real enjoyment to just add layers over an idea.

Big fan of the title as well.

First I thought it was a secret Joy Division rehersal, but then it became obviously you. well done.

I too like the laid back downtempo vibes the drums create as the guitar/bass and synth tip toe around each other.

This is pleasant. Lots of things happening, but each their own place.

Thanks!  Yeah, it's fun to just sit there and layer sometimes.  Some interesting things can happen.

I might have gotten taken over by Peter Hook for a minute there.

Thanks!  I think those drums definitely added a shade of color to the whole track.

Thanks!  The danger of layering sometimes is overdoing it, but I tried to tiptoe up to the edge of that on this one.

Wow, this is really cool.  Its like very much not your style, but I can definitely still recognize your writing.  Lots of very cool rhythmic stuff going on here too.  Great work on this.

That is one trippy track. I like the tone of the bass here. Cool sounds all around.

I think one of the best parts of WB is it's a great opportunity to stretch your style and try some stuff out you might not otherwise.  Thanks for listening!

Thanks!  I had fun putting this one together.

Krazy Koala Jazz! This hits me as a 90s Manchester sound and vibe. Loving the swirly effects on the guitars and keys and the very tasteful drum accompaniment. Great work switching things up this year and branching out in so many directions.

Yeah I can hear that 90's Madchester sound a bit now that you mention it.  It'll be fun to see what other directions I can explore in the second half of the year!
