Frost Giant Wake Up Service

By Cosmic Cairns on October 26, 2022 6:39 pm

After a very warm first three weeks of October we finally had a significant temperature drop here.  I had to put my jacket on for the first time, and while it's not exactly freezing, it still got me thinking about winter, which somehow led to me wondering if sleeping frost giants ever needed a wake-up service.  I decided they did and so I came up with this song.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Good morning frost giants it's time to shake all your sleepiness away
It's fifty-five below and we might not even see the sun today
Looks like a perfect icy cold morning
Blizzards coming down without any warning
Avalanches off in the distant mountains
Look just like a pure white flowing fountain

I know your bed feels good but now it's time to get up and seize the day
So walk out of your cave and headed towards glaciers that stretch across the bay
Snow is swirling around everywhere
Maybe you'll befriend some local polar bears
Later on make your way to the human village
They've built a new castle and it's waiting to be pillaged

It's been a long full day and now it's time to head home and go to bed
I look forward to waking you but now it's time to just rest your weary heads.

Such a CosmicCairns song! You have your own unique style that is like a signature - both lyrically and musically. This is really great!

Love that fiddle.

a fully pleasant CC song with all ingredients I love so much. I wonder how you build up the tracks in such a short time, from the single idea to the final result. there is so much going on and there are such brilliant breaks, like around 2:00 to 3:00. once again you nailed a beautiful unique song. thank you very much.

Great tune and a fun lyrical idea too.  Nice one!

If they do, this'll surely wake them up in a good mood.

Thanks!  A long time ago I used to try to write songs about love and relationships, but somewhere along the way I realized writing about frost giants was more "me."

It usually takes me 1 to 2 days to go from kernel of an idea to a finished track.  I suppose after all this time (and with some training from several years of WB) I've got my workflow down pretty good.  I usually start out with a snippet of a melody, which I try to expand more fully and then it becomes like assembling a puzzle around it and fitting all the right pieces on to build out the rest of the track.  I've gotten pretty good at just latching onto an idea and going with it quickly without second-guessing myself too much.

I can't stand being woken up by some obnoxious song on the radio.  I'm pretty good at waking up on time all on my own, but if I do need an alarm I prefer the standard beeps.  But I hear frost giants like waking up to music.

best wake-up service. evar! 'tis good to spill forth such warm vibes for such frosty giants big_smile
i dig the instrumental sections, too, adds a whole nother depth to such an amazing journey heart

I'm pretty sure those beeps left me with a trauma or something, but good that it's working for you.

Really uplifting track with the guitars and cello.  The refrain or solo in the middle has a cool sound too especially with the added percussion.

Thanks!  Frost giants deserve a good wake up service I think.

I don't mean to imply that I like the beeps or anything.  I think I'm destined to hate anything that disturbs my slumber, so I may as well direct my ire towards beeps as opposed to a song.  smile

Thanks!  the guitars and cellos did some heavy lifting on this one for sure.

Happy fun story. Great production. You imagine great stories, and that's inspiring!  Tone on guitar solo was great, slightly warmer I thought than sometimes, worked well!

Nice welcome to winter track! Bass and string arrangements sounding great!

Somewhat ironic I suppose that I achieved a warmer guitar tone on the song about frost giants and winter.  Although maybe that's why I needed to warm up!

Thanks!  Winter is not really here yet where I am, but it is noticeably cooler at least.  It felt like a good time to think about cold weather.

HOLY GOD that chorus chord progression is so good.  I might have to steal this.  Hey, what's that behind you???? *swipe*

I kept listening to it on repeat - I hear this as a progression of 7, and it's amazing how the word "up" kind of splits a measure.  I don't know why this is so amazing to me, but it is.  I wish I wrote it but maybe I can cover it???

incredible, I got chills hearing that chorus and kept going back to it.
LOVE the title as well.  I'm so grateful that WB brought this song to me and brought me to the song.

Thanks for the nice comments.  If you ever do decide to cover it (or utilize the chord progression) please let me hear your version!

literally heard it in a dream upon waking the other day!

The bit OD color-coded caught my ear as well, the last word sustain is badass. I'm listening to all yer tunes in a row so it's like an EP and this is definitely a standout track, though I'm genuinely jealous of your ability to write songs that slap every week.

Thanks!  I always figure some songs will be better than others, but I try to keep myself entertained each week and hopefully make something I would actually want to listen to.  It's always nice when I feel like I get into the zone for a few weeks in a row.

I got quoted so I got a notification so I obviously had to come back and listen and fall in love all over again heart

Good to see you drop by again!  On a side note, now that the year is coming to a close I've been thinking about assembling some of these WB songs into an album and in light of your endorsement of it, I think this one will for sure be on it.  smile

this song is stuck in my head today
