Two Melodies (Brian Wright)

By colorful grey on April 10, 2016 3:08 am

OK so this week I have two melodies from Brian Wright's excellent book "Lutecosmos." It's a lute book in the spirit of the famous "Mikrokosmos" series by Bartok for piano. I actually inquired with Mr. Wright if he would grant me permission to record these pieces and put them on weeklybeats, and he did, in fact, not mind at all. Thank you Mr. Wright! (let me know if you need proof!!)

So this is contemporary music written for the renaissance lute. These two melodies are from the 1st volume of the lute cosmos series (lydian and dorian). Monophonic, but with some challenges for dynamic playing, and I quote, "Given the narrow dynamic range of the lute, effort should be made to ensure that full use is made of this..." I recorded several takes of this, and this one seemed the most dynamic, even though the very last phrase has a small error in it.

I apologize for not commenting much recently, and am grateful for all y'all and everybody listening. Have a good week.

A Microcosmos approach to the lute; what a great concept. And a great performance by you as well. Much appreciated.

I NEED PROOF - just kidding.  very nice idea and execution!

Very concise and minimal performance. It builds a certain intimacy with the instrument.

Wish you're doing fine, Christian. I also want to catch up with some comments smile

Peace
