fetal heartbeat (signal through the noise)

This week it's something quite different...

I really had a lot of thoughts about this one, how to treat it, if I should try it, etc.

But I'm glad I just went for it.

The sample is the heartbeat of a baby that my wife and I are expecting.

I started working away on a new track with the palette of sounds I've been developing over the last few weeks, but it just sounded way too menacing and dystopic considering the sample material. So I started over with a different approach...

I wanted to be careful and respectful, and avoid what I might consider the exploitation of this special sound. I decided instead of composing a track that the sample is in service to, I'd instead try jamming with it. A little noise jam. Something ambient and chaotic, but also full of reverence and potential.

I like where it ended up!

WOW!  Great vibe; it has a polish that reminds me of Sinoia Caves.  It's also a brilliantly intimate application of sampling—your child will be be born with a proper baby album. tongue

thats awesome, it really gives this feeling of new life and hope, congrats!

thanks – so kind! I recognized the name Sinoia Caves but I didn't know from where... Woah! It's the keyboardist from Black Mountain, which is a band local to where I live, in Vancouver BC!

Absolutely incredible, instant favorite. A special, intimate sound hits waaaaay different. Percussion is crazy good, and the whole thing is awesome. (Now I do want to appreciate -- kid haven't even seen the world yet and already collaborated with dad on a mighty dope beat!)

Congratulations! heart

Really cool sound design. Congrats on the baby!

That is a wonderful concept! Congratulations! I like how you wanted to handle this in a very respectul manner and celebrate it rather than exploit it. That's a keeper for your family! I like the idea of the added percussions, as if this new life resonates with other lives around it, which welcome it to the world.
