Thrifting

By cmcavoy on January 23, 2026 12:56 am

Started looking through the 4 track in the OG OP1 for things to sample for a piece, fell down the lovely OP1 rabbit hole and came out with this. Sequenced live to a Portastudio 4 track in a single take. Fast and loose.

I wish all thrift stores sounded like this.

Ha! Agreed….thanks for listening!

Awesome beat - love the noise of this! Big and boomy and hissy. Makes it feel alive. You can simulate tape, but there’s nothing quite like the real thing.

Great-sounding break; very cool use of portastudio (accounts for most of the bg hiss, I assume?)

Great beat and sound. It sounds like an artifact.

Yes in the portastudio, though the hiss ended up overemphasized in the “mastering” chain I’ve been using. It’s very hiss forward 🤓
