Goal at start 3/31:
Push limits of what I can think about rhythmically. Start with sound selection and try to get a sense of what rhythmic qualities could work with that sound. Tackle melody creation with an emphasis on rhythm. Maybe try a bpm above 150.

End notes 4/2:
I made an unusual discovery with this one. I was trying to replicate the kick drum pattern in a reference song and kept pushing the bpm higher and higher trying to get the tempo right. I was past 180 when I opted to go “halftime” and dropped it to 100 bpm then kept pushing it up until I finally got it right at 110. I preceded to compose this song in “halftime” but had to use FL studio’s note chopping tool to make 16th notes. Does this mean I should be working with bpms well north of 200? Tempo is something I always struggle with and this might be a clue as to why. I intended to investigate this further next week, but it would seem if I want to make the best use of FL studio’s piano roll I’ll need to use 220 where I might otherwise use 110.

Action plan for next week:
When setting the kick drum, experiment with bpms above 200.

Rhythm is all sub-divisions of time. An 8th note at 100 bpm is the exact same length as a quarter note at 200. There's no real need to go over 200bpm, anything between 80 and 190 should be perfectly fine. To figure out the bpm of a track, just search for "tap tempo" and you'll find a bunch of sites where you can tap along to the pulse, and it'll show you the bpm.

Anyway, cool track! I like the spaciousness of it, especially in the bell-like melody.
