Week 23
Goal at start:
My notes from last week were to analyze reference songs for how they layer sounds and when.
Here are a few other things I’m trying to keep in mind this week:
Try designing the melody based on when it appears in the song, such as intro, verse, or bridge.
Use sound selection as the basis for melody. Test drive sounds to see what kind of melodies they might give rise to.
Have an idea of what style and tone you’re going for from the beginning and weigh everything against that. Don’t just drift aimlessly trying random things.
Pay attention to chords and scales. Think about what tone you’re setting for the overall song and if it matches your goal.
Focus on emotion, clarity, and energy.
Trying singing or humming the melody to assess how catchy it is.
Maybe try singing some mock vocals along with it.

End notes 6/5:
This week was chaotic. For a start, I ended up throwing out all my first days work because it was trash, so I lost a whole day. I started with something else using the same project file and reusing the same instruments. The end result is salvageable but I feel like I failed on almost all my starting goals, so I guess I’ll repeat the same goals next week.

Plan for next week:
Try again.
