Somber Moon

I tried a little emotive piece this week. This is much harder than dance tunes. smile Huabun, Tone Matrix, and a number of others have been crushing it with the emotive stuff. This influenced me to take a stab this direction. I may have murdered some of the humanity in the melodies by overtightening MIDI in the piano roll. It came out a bit too dry but it was good to get out of my comfort zone.

The opening vocal is Orson Welles via LOC public domain thing. There are one shot samples for the drum, the sub stab, and the random guitar pluck. The main synths are Zenology and Analog Lab plus some reverbs.

Beautiful. You definitely hit the emotive mark in somber fashion. heart

Good stuff! Nice interesting tones, really like those little palm mute/guitar bits like 2/3 the way in

Very cool. A step more going on than the many crazy good ambient tracks I've heard this week here but pairs nicely with them.

Might've been good with some various automation eg filter esp on the main part to give it a bit more motion throughout

100% agree. I was trying to figure that exact option out but couldn't find something that sounded right and wouldn't get lost under the secondary melody.

the lovely chord progression transported me away to a happy place.  Don't kid yourself!  You've been just as emotive! \m/
and thank you for such a nice comment.  Me reading: "meeeeeeuh!?" yikes

Very beautiful. I really enjoy when a synth is given space and time to really sing out and be appreciated like this - the lead sounds amazing. And the sub drops work really well - I can imagine taking this to a longer arrangement, and having one of those subs get massive a drop a beat on is for one big moment of tension. Great song!

Beautiful instrument choices and big space to let them sing. Really awesome.

This is making me wamt to go to bed lol. Love this
