Elmwood Echoes

By Cakes on February 8, 2026 8:53 pm

This one had momentum early in the week but seems to have petered out in the engineering phase. My initial goal was to do a drum machine plus 303 thing. It gestated with the 909 kit in Maschine. Those loops were exported into Logic. I found a 303 preset in Analog Lab that I started building around. A few shitty sounds and one nice vocal later and here we are.

The track title is related to the vocal. It was sourced from a song a couple of old friends made back in the mid 2000s when they roomed together in Buffalo. I hadn't ever gotten around to trying to remix their song, but the vocal lined right up for this project.

The Arturia 303s are sooo good, Acid V is amazing. This really took a wonderful turn midway through with the pads and birds and vocals, really beautiful musical decision there. And the 909s are classic, they work for a reason! Great track!

has a chill 90s idm sound

The vocals hit so good! Love this

"a few shitty sounds and one nice vocal later". I seriously crave more music like this. The soundscape you created for your song is great. Your friends will be happy to hear this.

the birds are wonderful! i also like the play of the hats against the secondary (?) melodic line—simple but effective smile

love the how the 303 screams out with each line. Slick drum groove that goes so nicely with the vocals. Well done!

This is really evocative immediately. The restrained 303 has such character. Great stuff.

This is such a cool use of the 303, and there are so many neat little flourishes here (I really like the occasional chiptune arpeggiated chord stabs). Great job!

Don't you be dissing the track I just favourited! The 303 sounds awesome and all the elements feel like they're dancing together. That vocal is pretty fine, tho.

real good bass

The fluttery sound around 0:50 is so cool. I love the groove and when the vocal comes in it all really works great together. That's rad you had something in the archive to pull from. I like the transition back into the beat around two minutes in smile

I was expecting more vocals to come in, but when they didn't I really appreciated the vocal sample more deeply!  Used with such restraint in this mellow track, makes for a nostalgic vibe, I love it.

That beat and those quick pitch pending synths are so slick. This is such a cool vibe! big_smile

Reminds me of the chill out pier at Starscape that thunderball used to play

Very cool and 90s

Greath track, love the vibe too. I love your textures (shakers + noise sweeps + birds) and stuff like that. I would like more strings / pads, for some epic breakdown with the voice! How old are you? This is right up my alley and is pretty much my youth...

Perilously close to a half century. sad Epic breakdown request noted. I plan to revisit some of these later on if I can make it through the year. If so I will expand some of the concepts and lengthen the songs. I find myself gravitating to shorter stuff for this project so I don't lose some of the listeners.
