Deck Work

By Cakes on May 10, 2026 4:38 pm

This "song" is a hat tip to the guys who resurfaced my deck last month.

The beats and synths came out of the MPC and went into Logic for EQing and sequencing. I abandoned an MPC bassline and pivoted to a gforce OB-EZ VST bass inside Logic. I need more experience to get some better clarity out of it. My go to staging has been to throw UADx 176 compressor with a "Bass Grit" preset onto my bass then Pro Q-4 soft DI Bass 02 preset with a sidechain to the kick. Fuck knows if I'm doing it right. I hope it sounds OK.

It needs more sequencing work, and maybe some more accent effects in places, but I'm please with the individual elements the more I listen to it.

It sounds great! I am nerding out about all the space in the mix and clean tones and dirty bass and that clicky laser percussion which is working so perfectly but really the track just works, really great groove and the vocals are *just right*, I really struggle with that a lot and these are right on point. Awesome song.

doooom dooom! oooh that 1-2 bass line immediately got me hooked. Love those fm leads too.  My head be bobbin! \m/

I really like the bass tone, sounds super fat and a great contrast with the transients of the percussive sounds. Really great sound overall

Deck work is valuable. You can close your eyes, take a few dance steps, and enjoy that smooth deck under your feet as you dance to this catchy tune.

Sounds right to me smile

Shout out to the deck workers. Dig the kick.

Very solid, and I love the dedication you added as well

Love this! Fat kick and bass, the tone on the synth/melody cuts through and sounds great
