From darkness, growth

The dice gave E major. Hard to make it fit into the darker, industrial vibe I was going for with this trio. I did go down a brief but interesting rabbit hole about things like using the minor iv (switching the subdominant chord in a major key to it's minor equivalent, to convey a sense of loss or etc) and examples of folks pulling it off, like Radiohead of course. In the end, I couldn't make it work and the whole thing sounds more synthpop than when I was aiming for synthpop, and it's a little rough on the transitions and overall arrangement but I kinda like it.

I get a Smashing Pumpkins vibe. The synth added a lot of groove to the main riff. Solid track!

Rad!!!

Nine Inch Nails has got quite a few tracks in major keys and they're just as menacing as anything else.

The synthpop vibe is entirely due to the huge chorus bass. You could replace it with a simpler bassline for a more grungy feel. But I don't think you should! This has a rather unique vibe thanks to the combination.

Thanks for this! I appreciate the kind words, but especially the technical insight. I took it to heart when I cranked out the next track. I don't think I pulled off 'menacing', but it felt like it was in the target genre despite the major key.

Thanks! That was a cool happy accident, where the guitar and synth kinda meld for the last bar or two of that part and sound like a cooler third instrument playing a hook. I'm glad you noticed.

Side note, I'm terrible at responding, but I've listened to all of your tracks so far and your aural storytelling is in peak form as always, but I think your composition and production has reached a new heights. Awesome stuff. Also my 17 year old would appreciate it if you would put your newer stuff on Spotify lol

Well your 17 years old convinced me to jump ship and upload some of my more recent-ish albums to Distrokid, which would include Spotify. That should pop up in about one week. smile
