Timeless

A couple weeks ago I re-arranged the furniture in my second floor office/studio and moved my piano from an inside corner of the room to in front of my double windows that look out at the thick trunk and limbs of a huge Maple Tree and the old, tall pines and other evergreens that surround my home. Now, when I sit down to play, instead of staring at the blank wall that was in front of me, I can look out the window at whatever the day brings. So, yesterday when I sat down to come up with this week's "beat", I thought I wanted to play something upbeat or even a honky tonk jam I was messing with. But then I looked up and out the window and saw how the early evening sun, low in the western sky, was sparkling gold through thousands of vibrant, young Maple leaves that filled my window frame. Each translucent leaf shimmered as a soft wind carried the branches and twigs they adorned in a gentle sweeping rhythm. I sat there watching this old tree, made more beautiful by sun and wind, and thought maybe I could translate this scene into music. So, I put hands to keys, and this is what came out. The only word I could think of to describe the moment is "Timeless".
Played on the Shigeru Kawai 6-foot grand sample on the ES8.
