Klon’s last transmission

By BTS on October 23, 2016 8:21 pm

I decided to try some experiments with the Vocoder effect in Reason. Also, I wanted to get into the spirit of the season and use a more unnerving piece of audio to create a haunting atmosphere.  I decided to take samples from the Librivox version of the story “This is Klon Calling” by Walt Sheldon, as read by the late Gregg Margarite. (@ https://librivox.org/short-science-fiction-collection-018/). I took the reading into Audacity, where it was sliced into samples, mostly taken from the back third of the recording.

For the main “Phone Call Section” of the recording, I used a modified Vocoder Combinator, with CV control coming from a Pulsar. For the “After the call” section, I used another modified Vocoder Combinator. I also took samples in random order and reversed the, playing them through two LeSpaces, with CV control coming from a Pulsar and a Randrome Jr.

To add more sound elements, I also used 3 different “Atmospheric” combinators, which I CV triggered with a combination of a Pulsar and Divisor.

I mixed the track live, then I equalized and added insert FX, comprised of two Audiomatics. For the Master FX, I used Peff’s Hexpressor combinator and an Ozone.

Cool atmospheric effect. There are some jarring part where the sound swept from right to left but does a hard cut in between - not sure if it was intentional but it was definitely disturbing.

Reminds me of waves, but my mind thinks, "This should be radio noise." Listening to this was an experience.

Yeah, I had a few issue with one of the Combinators.  I think I've figured out how to fix it in the future.

Thanks for the feedback.

Definetely eeire results for an interesting process
