I had experimented with a few different ideas, but in light of the recent passing of Don Buchla, I decided to use Reaktor in combination with Bigwig to pay homage to West Coast Synthesis.

I used the “West 1.3” ensemble, which is inspired by the Music Easel. I then loaded the ensemble into Bitwig, where I activated the unit with random MIDI clips (5 in total).

I then used a “Freeze” effect chain to effect the sound of the Reaktor unit.

I recorded the output, modulating the “Freeze” chain’s parameters and switching between MIDI clips live.
