brainfreeze (KORG Gadget)

Happy WB2016!  i thought i'd try my hand at iPad's KORG Gadget App.  Just messing around with some live patterns and getting a sense of its overall capabilities while learning the ins and outs of the various machines.  tried to create a decent range of synth sounds, like some spacey pads, as well as trying to see how well Gadget handles the creation of various chip sounds (one of the machines is specifically for chip sounds but was curious about how authentic a SID lead i could cook up).

Overall thoughts on KORG Gadget?  Really powerful as an on-the-go app, particularly for rhythms.  Using a touchscreen (without any stylus) to compose music is still a hard sell for me though.  you can sort of tell from the melodic bits i wrote near the end - i tried to do some lead melody work but the process overall is more obtuse than i hoped.  There are definitely some areas for improvement but in terms of a pianoroll-style DAW that has a workable way of automating parameters by hand, i'm glad this app exists at all.

woah that sync synth sound at the beginning is wicked. I'm a sucker for a sync lead big_smile

nice lead halfway through as well. it's quite a nice sound you managed to get out of the app, actually. too bad I generally dislike touchscreen music apps, otherwise I'd give it a try.

This is some of the better work I've heard with the Korg Gadget. Complete with that Bry-vibe. The sound design and rhythms are top notch. Great track!

Cool!  I am all about the Korg Gadget app, nice to hear your work with it! big_smile

Korg make some pretty fun stuff, I hope to bring out the DS-10+ a bit this year.
It's hard to sort of sequence a decent track with, but at least making a recording of a particular take on a patch goes a long way.

Great stuff! Good to hear your jams again smile

Yeah, you make that app sound pretty dope! Makes me wish I had an ipad now.

Digging the busybusy grooves.
Never used Gadget but I'll probably bring out Caustic sometime later in the year, was so much fun in 2014

@pselodux actually i'm pretty sure that synclead is a default preset!  haha.

@aday i wish i was good enough at the performative aspect for the record button to be useful for me.  gotta hunt and peck at those individual arp notes =/

Havent tried Gadget yet but been working with another artist on tunes that have on his side been made with this. I have only Ipad mini so kinda concerned if it would have enough power to play lots of boxes. Some cool pads in this one, well done, also the very end is cool!

nice.

BBbbrrryyyyyyfaaaccc--uuuuu!  Loving it mate.  Love when that bass and minimal lead kick in near the start... perfect amount of portmento on dat bass!! heart   Had to google this gadget thing; looks pretty fricking crazy.  Is there an android version?  How do you render out the final - is there a print to wave and email or something?

I was jealous the whole WB'14 watching you squeezing every ounce of groove out of Gadget. I still have to "get it" smile

Nice to have you back!!!

Holy crap, this song is the bomb. Also, brainfreeze is a great name for a track.

No android version yet (or possibly ever, if Android doesn't sort out its ongoing latency issues hmm)  As far as i know Gadget lets you export the master or individual stems to soundcloud, dropbox, itunes and/or ableton live, but it being iOS it's not as simple as dragging a raw WAV off of a mounted folder.   But for this tune i had to record out the headphone jack since there was some live manipulation =P

Is this the sound of a bee being punched to death?

It's so flow-y.
Also why am I reminded of Snowboard Kids?

Very jazzy--dig the synth lead you did on this--impressive, especially all done on touchscreen! Not my favorite input method either.

hehe I love how I like your songs at the first bar smile very well articulated
