Budgie 6:30am (with bouzouki resonance)

By brokenmusic on January 22, 2012 9:08 pm

Not quite so pleased with this one, a little too affected I feel (and maybe if I allowed myself a second take I might've started a bit more in key hmm) but it'll do for this week. Not bad for 6:30am before work (only a few hours before the deadline). And anyhoo, my policy IS imperfection at all costs.

Obviously my bouzouki is talking to me again, but only just.

Recorded on my trusty Zoom H2.

Brokenmusic.

Over 2 decades of playing guitar and I desperately needed to smash it to pieces, to start again. To play like a child, to rediscover sound and my instruments.

A most vulnerable process this, now to expose it to the elements.

Curious to see what happens when the light touches it, when I breathe on it, when you look at it. Does it oxidise? What does that sound like?

I can also be found playing in a slightly less broken fashion with Sydney's most intense, extreme metal band, Mother Eel. Find us herewww.facebook.com/MotherEel, herehttp://corporatemanifestations.com/eel/, or herehttp://www.myspace.com/mothereel

This is absolutely fantastic! I love the resonances, plus you have a lovely voice.

big_smile Aww shucks! That's encouraging. Many thanks smile I was hoping for more resonance, it seems to change depending on the room I'm in, which makes sense.

It'd be a fun experiment to feed the room sound back into the room (like Alvin Lucier's "I Am Sitting In A Room", kinda), which the bouzouki would also pick up on and resonate with, but it would pull out interesting harmonics and whatnot.

i want to put some melody to it! smile   ..interesting key shift around the half way mark - sounds celtic.

Cool. Lovely voice. The bouzouki probably doesn't quite have enough oumph firing at it to resonate loudly - but it was def working.  You can get some really well priced contact mics - you'd have a ball with one I reakon :-)

Many thanks people!
@vinpous: that would be an interesting idea! One I might indeed try.
@Paul: the melody actually grew out of a guitar improvisation, I might rerecord it with a guitar part, but if you wanted to play with it as long as you credit me I'm quite happy.
@cTrix: many thanks smile and yes I might have to try some different mic arrangements...

Very much like this. Would love to hear you over some great music too smile
