Parlour Pings

Well this week was quite a ride. I got really excited with the start of this track, which was the base marimba chords and the bassline. Putting the percussion together felt un-natural and I never got satisfied with the groove (and still not there). I spend too long trying to strip down the bassline and get the groove set that i ran out of energy and inspiration for actually putting a whole structure togeterh. The horns were a late addition that brewed great excitement for the song last night, but that devolved into frustration trying to line all of them up as some have pretty hefty and inconsistent delays due to the articulation differences and possible sample library buffering.

Everything in here is first cut. I had to paste pieces of the marimba solo in the middle together to hold a structure because i cannot play it at tempo yet.

The cool thing about this one, though, is that I can solo on it for days. I recorded like 20 minutes of marimba soloing that didn't make it into the song.

super bounce!  no shame in the cut and paste solo - it sounds awesome!  very impressed with the mix.  That hi-hat is so key

It's a pretty nice jungly groove.
