W36: Ambient Slate

By boorch on September 8, 2024 7:16 pm

I'm thinking of doing a drone set, but I want to keep it simple, plug and play. So I decided to create small compositions with 4 tracks of drones stacked together, all in the same key, all somewhat lacking any sense of rhythm, just sounds drifting away. And I want to "perform" them using the SP404MK2 (which is gathering dust lately), in order to play into its strengths (being able to play very long audio files and plenty of ambient friendly, "leftfield" effects). Maybe I can introduce an additional live element playing "Plinky" live on top of it. Perhaps feeding it through 404's input fx as well. Anyways, this is the first sketch of a possible composition I'll later export stems out of.

Enjoy!

Very interesting sound design. Loving the static that's in the background, it gives the track a really eery vibe

Having those opening notes be discordant really set a mood for this piece.  There is a tone in there that sounds like horns peeking out of the swells of the drones, nice work.
