How to Be Cool

By bleo on February 6, 2022 5:41 pm

My friend Dani sent a loop of two synth chords that she didn't know what to do with. I dumped it into M8 and started tweaking. Got a decent loop going but then what? Oh yeah, adding vocals is the easy way out, right?

stay on the path of the positron
day after day you fall astray
sleep on the couch killing your confidence
night after night with mud on your face

feel like you've overspent your promises
bouncing your checks and balanced bones
what to do with you
when you don't know, when you don't know how to be cool

so setup the stupid board, then flip the table
you're wearing dirty clothes, you can't bear the clean ones
the silence only screams your ears are ringing
but you're always on time

Sent the WIP to my Shrimps bandmate Joe. He happened to be messing with the new Philip Glass piano samples and sent me a little improv piece he recorded. Seemed like it'd work as an intro, so I dropped it in the DAW, pitched it down 4 semis and let's gooooo...

Wave race vibes

Cool Philip Glass piano with effects, I also played around with that this week but didn't publish the piece I made. Weirdly matches the song perfectly by setting the mood in your intro. Well done!
Also, cool you made a song with 2 chords but it still has sections and feels like it develops! BTW I was watching the Rick Beato video about the best songs with 2 chords and the best stuff is in the comments big_smile

Nice that you included a bit about the process. I am trying to incorporate the M8 into the workflow but so far it was frustrating cause I don't like copying files around until I can make a song. Now I got a cable so I can hook my computer up to my interface and hopefully channel everything thru the ipad. How do you do it with regards to copying stuff around and having to change daws n stuff? Doesn't it impact your focus and workflow or do you just tough it out?

Love the piano. And woah, this is a full blown song! (you had mentioned lyrics, but still) Very nice!
