Tales from the Bin

By Avrilcadabra on January 14, 2024 11:33 pm

So.. I used to be a guitarist, but due to injury had to stop playing 20 years ago, but sometimes I can play for a few minutes. Anyway my friend volunteers at a thrift store, and one of the earlier workers had thrown this guitar in the skip bin. So my friend got it out of the bin and gave it to me.  I tuned it up and it's nice. it's a 3/4 yamaha acoustic.

So.. I was running beats through the c64 dac in chipsynth and started playing acoustic along to it, recorded it during a storm and chopped it up, so there is rain in some chops and weird glitches and to much noise floor, and usb interference etc, sounds like an demo tape. threw some cheesy angel presets I made on the m8 in, some bass and so on.

I also busted out my ibanez rg550 and recorded a riff.

So please enjoy Tales from the Bin.

I'm digging the grittiness to it.
I could imagine this being the theme song for some super baddie: the protagonist facing him in the evening, the rain crashing down on him, and the antagonist being back-lit by a giant full moon.

Dope.  This has such an interesting dark vibe to it, very cinematic.  I love the processing on the drums, and I agree with As_Yoesual, very like show down with the big bad in the rain... wonderful.

Nice, I like your creative vision!

Thanks, might have to do this with drums again in the future

Dark.  Love the way the beat grooves along.  Funny how sometimes an old Nylon can just have a vibe that brings on a whole tune.

Excellent ride from exotic eeriness to tension to confrontation... super cinematic tune.

Wow! This is so cool! I also immediately had visions of a dark cult cinema intro sequence. Maybe vampires, maybe mafia, maybe both? Would watch!

love the rawness of it all, very cinematic feel

hoping guitars make their way into more of your tracks now!

oh wow I am discovering a new side of you! This is something I really like, love the mix of medial/metal/break
The rain and noises all add to it rather than distract tbh

Lovely grittiness, really gives it a vibe! The choirs are really on point here.

Dope vibe generally! Extra dope drums, I think I have samples that attempt to sound this gritty and cool but they don't, yours do!

Very atmospheric indeed, i like the cruchyness (is that a word ha) lovely tune on guitar

Sounds epic.

I like the noise and hiss on top of the that groove. Nice guitar chops too!

love the dark and heavy mood. drums work really well too. like the other commenters said, definitely has cinematic, intro-to-the-dangerous-villain vibes.

Sounds awesome! I feel like I should be walking in slow motion away from an explosion at night. haha.

dig the acoustic riff and how the track builds up around the minute mark. Well done thanks for sharing!

oh. shit.

the acoustic beginning bit is very… pistolero and then you fire up the counter guitar line and it’s like no, we’re here to shred. and maybe get tacos later.

genuinely loved it. it could go on an album leaf or saltillo album right now, no notes.

Soundtrack fodder. Intro music to a dark horror movie, maybe a montage of the grieving process right before the revenge scene?  Good track, very immersive vibe!

Whoah! This is epic! (And I should know since I went through a phase of listening to all the "epic" mixes on YouTube. 😆)

The whole track is fantastic! Right when I thought I knew what I was in for, you switched it up. Epic!!

Sounds like you are STILL a guitarist to me. I like the eastern sound.

Also everyone always sleeps on yamaha guitars, they literally do not make a bad instrument in any category or price range. you are lucky that fell in your lap.

OMFG when that drum groove kicks in with the guitar and choir-ish pads' riff cool  Instant +fav.

I'm the only musician in my family who doesn't play guitar, but between what you and Tristian Baldi have been doing with guitar + M8, I'm starting to reconsider.

It's so full of mystique and wonder, a magical song.
