A Memory of Water

By Avarine on January 21, 2018 12:50 am

This track is really simple, but the path to the end result was twisty with lots of dead ends! I initially was trying out a new idea sampling myself playing piano, but it just wasn't working. I persevered with it for days before I finally gave it up.

The basis for this one is the poly arpeggiated chords that run all the way through. That part is adapted from an idea I came up with years ago, which at the time was intended for a soundtrack. The title is a reference to the imagery in the film of this long abandoned project. Originally I wrote it for piano. I rejigged it a bit and played it here with a patch on my Waldorf Blofeld.

Actually, all of the sounds in this track were recorded with the Blofeld, except for the drums and bass. Drum and bass parts took the longest, due to me trying and abandoning lots of ideas. In the end, I went for a simple approach. (Because KISS, right? Keep It Simple, Stupid.)

This track has been a lesson in when to call it quits. Even now, I'm not quite happy with the intro length. One of the bits of audio doesn't sit right, but I got too attached and couldn't let it go.

like glittery clockwork

Cool jingle here.
Waterfall ice waves

I could definitely hear this in a film.  Learning to call it quits is hard for me too but it sounds like you nailed the vibe you were going for here.  Really like it!

Works for me! Nice job.

Always good to keep it simple! This is lovely, I really like the main pattern of cascading bells. One reason I like WB is because you HAVE to call it quits at some point, good lesson's in finishing for sure. It's too easy to keep tweaking something forever without a deadline.

I like how it sounds like really ethereal but with an almost dance floor vibe.  Cool juxtaposition of sounds.

Sounds great, like the bass and drums, might of took some time but fit in well

Convulsive bass invites tension
