Genre experiment gone awry?

Wouldn't normally go where this one took me but the WeeklyBeats deadline has once again forced me to double down on an odd choice. At a certain point there just wasn't time to do anything other than forge on down this strange little pathway. So here it is.

Yeah, I feel that process. That's how every track has been for me this year. I like where this took you, though.

Oh this is rad, psychedelic af! The entire distortion section in the beginning is awesome, and I really like how non-verbal the vocals are and how rhythmic their function is. On a second listen, the transition away from the distorted bits into the groovier section is a stand-out (props) as is the attention to detail during the ending (moar props). I think some of the best stuff on here is the result of having to commit / double-down on something we have doubts about. I'm certainly ripping off a couple of things from this at some point in time! Awesome work!

wow could have never predicted we were going to come out of that distortion swamp and wind up here.  how'd you get the distortion?  it's so tasty.

+1 to everything

The distortion intro is really awesome and I like how seamlessly it transitions to the rest of the song and how there are still hints of distortion that never totally go away.  One thing I think is neat about WB is how it forces you to commit to choices.  Things may not end up how you intended, but sometimes they go to some pretty interesting places.

Cheers, thank you. One day we'll get a step or two ahead, maybe!

Thanks so much for your detailed response, means a lot. Appreciate your words on the transition and ending, have partly been using WB to explore different ways to transition between different but related sound worlds. Go ahead and rip to your heart's content.

Cheers, glad you like it. It's a Nord Drum running through multiple dirt/saturation/effects processors including an Analog Heat. The way it breaks up and starts phasing is a byproduct of using spectral morphing to shift between sounds.

Cheers for your thoughts. I agree, this is one of the best things about WeeklyBeats. The pressure of a deadline and the fact that there's no chance of coming up with War and Peace on this kind of timeline can sometimes free things up and lead to moments of genuine inspiration and surprise.
