On The Hunt For That 70's Drum Sound

By atomtwist on February 13, 2022 11:56 pm

EDIT: -------JUST NOTICED I MESSED UP THE RENDER AND MOST OF THE INTRO IS MISSING ------ looking into how to fix it, here is a video of the full track meanwhile -------

I'm slightly obsessed with that particular 70's drum sound. So I spend some hours this week trying to get my e-drums to sound more like that. I've used a simple chord structure, and generated a few instruments playing those chords with band in a box, so I would have something to play and mix the drums to. The result was the second part, where the drums come in. Wasn't sure what to do for weeklybeats until deciding to upload this drum mix test, so 2 hours before the deadline, I generated another guitar & bass part, mixed them to sound old, and played a one-take dodgy guitar solo on top. That's what you hear in the intro. Was fun to do, and I'm learning more about how to achieve those tapey 60s/70s sound aesthetics that i like on my computer smile And of course it was another case of uploading at 00.58 risky bizzniz - i should get better at not doing that..

Awesome man, you definitely got close to the sound you were going for no the drums.  I think the screeching organ helped create that vibe too though!  Really cool sound this week.

sounds good! would totally trick me that it came from the old days

Mission accomplished. Sounds great!

The organ really stands out!

you naild that sound. also, if you're interested: shawn lee does some very nice contemporary 70's stuff with his project young gun silver fox. he also plays the drums himself.
