The Stella Ritual

By Ashtom on November 8, 2020 10:19 pm

This week I felt like making a track inspired by Boards of Canada. I rediscovered their discography recently (along with the mysterious aura around the band) and was touched by the palpable ambiance of their music. Something unsettling and familiar at the same time.

I can't pretend to be as skillful as they are but I saw there a good occasion to try and practice something different (even though I think one can recognize some of my more-spacey mood during the track).
I also ignored any drum beat or any speech sample (maybe next time I should include some, maybe some guitar too).

This time I was too lazy to hook up multiple synths to the mixer and only worked with the Deluge.

Thanks for listening and have a great week.

I can definitely hear the Boards of Canada vibe.  Digging the warped synths as well as the vinyl pops and crackles.

Thanks! Feels good to know I'm not the only one getting that vibe!

Sick! The detuned synths and the clicking give me art house horror movie vibes.

this is a terrific BoC tribute!  you nailed all the elements, the warp, the echo, the crackle, the shuffle beat, arpeggios

oops, i forgot the DRONE

Yes you're right, I have those vibes too! I think it still got influenced by the 2 previous tracks I made which were definitely in that direction. Thanks for pointing that out!

Thanks a lot! I must admit I'm quite happy with how it turned out. Especially the detuned pad at the beginning. I'm pretty sure nobody would believe that it's a custom Deluge patch and not a loop from somewhere else.
