Graveyard Of Abandoned Ships

By Ashtom on February 8, 2026 1:24 pm

I continue my journey through experimentation with cassette tape recording.

This week, I added a harmonic component to the soundscape and brought back the space exploration that I cherish so much (this is one of the main themes of my music production these past few years).

I started creating a new patch on the Korg Wavestate, using the 4 layers and focusing each of them on a specific area of the spectrum: woodwind samples for the lows, synthetic pads for the low-mids, strings for the hi-mids and looped bells for the highs.

For the harmonic component, I reproduced a technique popularised by Alessandro Cortini (who I mention often to my fellow musician friends) by recording a different note on each of the 4 tracks: C#, E, G and B.

As usual, I recorded everything in high speed and then replayed a normal speed, while playing a lot with the faders to introduce a note and remove another. Like last time, I fed the whole in the Golden Master pedal and recorded with the Zoom L-12 (with a pinch of plate reverb to glue everything).

I think I really like the result, and I hope you'll like it too!
Thanks in advance for your feedback and have a nice week!

The end result is great! That's a fascinating processing chain you have developed, inspires me to experiment.

Your technical prowess at sound generation pays off in this evolving glorious sound.  It bursts with energy and transitions with such emotional depth.  Fantastic 🔥

Hey Ashtom, i really love this and could endless listen to it. What else can i say?

This is so cool! I love the atmosphere and ambience created, and recording to cassette is a really neat idea! I had pondered doing the same for an experimental track, and now I might have no more excuses not to.

Absolutely can't wait to hear more from you

Thank you all for the positive feedback! It brings me a lot of energy knowing that other people appreciate my output and I'm happy if it inspires others in their practice.

Great sound and mood!
