Stopping The Engine
=====
This is the engine that runs the world. It is the engine that holds us all back. Go, hero, shut it down for all of us.
=====

I didn’t spend a lot of time planning the song and spent most of it on the last day. I started with some chords and a brief arpeggio, then laid down the entire concept based on that foundation, including arrangement, sound design, and selection.

Mostly hardware, except for software drums on MASCHINE.
=====

Mon. Sept 12, 21:00 - 22:20. This week, I’m combating some GAS so I better try to work hard on using the gear I already have. This week, it’s going to be learning how to make some more patches on the Alesis Andromeda A6, which is a total beast to program on.

I was reading an article and it wasn’t that useful. I was also semi-distracted through this entire time. I don’t really consider this as “songwriting time” so I probably won’t add it into the total for this week, but time learning the synthesizers is never really that terrible of an idea even if I don’t like the resulting sound that much.

22:40 - 22:50. Songwriting. Working on some timbre and chords. I have something down, that’s ten minutes well spent.

Wed. Sept 14 22:00-22:15. I didn’t really keep track of the time this session, but I literally opened the session, laid down a 1-bar drum loop, duplicated my chords I had, and then adjusted the filter envelope on one of my sounds. Then I stopped. I probably spent more time writing this liner note than I did on the song.

Thurs. Sept 15 20:30 - 21:10. Cleaning up the song’s foundation.

Sun. Sept 18, 10:55 - 13:35. Basically creating the entire concept now. I went for a kind of industrial epic feel here with a lot of raw, harsh sounds. Lots of live-recorded stuff, like the melodies with dynamic filtering, drums, and so forth. (Lots of mistakes too though). This was fun at least. It seems like most of the sounds work together which is something I tend to have issues with.

Total time: 4h 45m (not including the hour spent playing with the Andromeda).

That opening lead synth is well ugly, I love it.  And then the build up happens!  Great stuff - puts me in mind of Metropolis, somehow.
