In the depths, terrors await.

I normally don’t tend toward composing dissonant music. This is definitely dissonant and a bit more disorienting than most of my previous songs this year. It was an interesting experiment because of that. I don’t really experiment enough with sound effects here (a lot of other interesting songs on WeeklyBeats have great use of filters and panning to really craft the space). Next time.

Monday, July 25. 20:20 - 21:05. A new week. I’m away this weekend, so I’m going to be submitting early, which probably means that this will be a 2-3 hour piece.
I was reading this blog: http://jasonyu.me/secret-of-the-forest/. Recently I’ve found that my songs have been compositionally kind of dull, so I’m wondering if I read up on some analysis, will I get more creative in my songwriting? It may also help me recreate the feeling of other songs better.
However, I don’t have enough time to explore new areas of music theory I don’t know about this week, so I’m going to minimally incorporate some of the concepts and start over.
Tuesday, July 26, 20:20 - 21:00.
Wednesday, July 27, 20:20 - 22:20. This is by far the most dissonant track that I’ve ever made that still has some kind of coherence to it. It’s actually rather interesting because I’m deliberately reaching beyond my typical music theory boundaries (i.e. playing notes outside of the scale) and basically trying weird stuff out.
I didn’t really massage the instruments that much, I kept everything in the realm of square waves with a bunch of layered effects. Hope you enjoy.
Total time: 2h 40m (with an additional 45 minutes of reading a blog analyzing some music).
