I need to learn to mix. seems loud?
I was trying to clone a row and accidentally ended up sampling it, so i chopped it and put it back into the song. pretty darn fun.

The mix is interesting--the bassline seems very present until the lead part comes in, and then it seems like the bassline level is dropped to make room for the lead (and later the kick). If you're running into overload problems balancing those voices, you might want to inspect each channel with a spectral plugin, so you can check for overlapping frequency bands. (If two different parts have overlapping frequencies, you can reduce that overlap with filtering.) From the sound of the bass...I wonder if it might not have a lot of very-low-end information that's building up and using headroom you could use for other channels.

In any case, this is a cool melody and interesting arrangement!

Thanks for the advice and kind words on the arrangement. I don’t think I ever even noticed the baseline mostly disappearing but it’s obvious now that you mentioned it. I spent more time on the two melodies and how they would interact. I tried to have those two separate but still kinda on top of each other.

I have to look into a spectral plugin.

You're welcome! Depending on what software you're using, a spectrum analyzer might already be built in (Ableton has one, for example). And there are free VST versions of them.

I have bitwig 8track, and reaper.
I made this using dirtywave m8 and some earbuds.
I went back and applied an EQ to the bass and it had like no response from raising the low frequency and a lot from the mids, so it’s definitely living among the other instruments.

Oh, interesting! So you probably have a lot of headroom you can use. Bitwig surely has a spectrum plugin in there somewhere. It'd be interesting to see if there's any overlap, but it does sound like this is just a level/mix question.
