It's Always Hard

The last couple months I faced a plateau where I kept doing the same process for writing a song, but never quite felt like it was what I wanted. After I put out the Week 45 track, "Gate of Detrius," I learned that there are ways to make more interesting tracks. Since then, I've been working on making themes for tracks, more so than just creating a melody. The result has been longer sessions of writing ideas and playing with sounds to try and find ones that work for the track. Because I have been short on time because of work and learning more about song writing, I am working a little more on basic songwriting for guitar.
The track you will hear is one I recorded after trying to make a melody alongside the chords. I found that holding fingers stationary while moving one or two created a lot of issues with which chord shapes and intervals I could use. IO think I understand why so many acoustic artists make up crazy tunings. I spent an hour just trying to get the first four chords to sound full while I moved my middle and ring fingers to play the melody/chords. Threw drums on it to try and practice finger drumming. Drum "patterns" are really weak in this track.
This week's practice:
1) Acoustic guitar finger playing
2) Drums - finger playing on the fly (not programming patterns)W
