Week 3: Make a drumkit from a single sample

By AMD24 on January 20, 2024 6:07 pm

This week, I wanted to go off piste from my original plans and follow an idea that had come to my mind when watching some tutorials on Nanoloop. Probably not a unique idea for anyone who uses the software, but I was excited of the prospects. Essentially there is a sample feature in Nanoloop IOS, and you can record your sample yourself. You can then record multiple sounds one after the other then program the notes to have different starting trigger points and voila, a drumkit from a single instrument (nanoloop allows 8 instruments max so realising this efficiency early was really important!)

I'm  more proud of the resulting composition than previous weeks too, actually may hasten to call it a "song"

Three weeks in and still feeling very motivated, see youse next week!

A single sample to create a whole drumkit - that's a nice constraint and experiment! What did you learn from this experiment? After having made this track, is there something you'd want to change in the workflow?

some nice rhythmic ideas here!

These are some really useful questions to consider, thank you for commenting!
I learnt that it was possible and useful for making more efficient use of the max 8 channels nanoloop gives you, but I'd need more planning to make the most out of the idea. I'm letting myself off by saying "I'm still at the playing around stage" to myself but if I had followed my original plan of setting up percussive elements to get a nice range I think I'd have gotten a much nicer set of sounds.

Instead I was on mute on a boring work call and make some noises with my mouth to test the idea and badda bing haha
