ruff

I didn't have as much time again this week due to travel, so I have a few bad takes I'd normally re-record, and my playing is a bit rough on this one - hence the title "ruff" :-)

But on the positive side, I've added recording a new instrument in this track!

Guitar, Bass, and my new synth (Novation Summit) recorded on my multitrack recorder (drums are EZ Drummer again. I'll get my own drum playing in before 2024 is over!)

The guitar sounds razor-sharp here! Mixed quite loud against the rest but that's okay.

How are you liking the Summit so far?

I was planning to export the stems from the multitrack recorder, and do more mastering in Ableton, but for some reason Ableton wasn't behaving ad the last last verse of the guitar part got out of sync. Like somehow it auto-warped the last 30 seconds only... Probably just growing pains of trying a different workflow than I'm used to there. When that didn't pan out, I only had the rough mixdown I did on the recorder and did some mastering with that. The guitar levels were a bit much, but I thought it might be ok. A few hours later after I submitted it, I listened to it on my phone, and... even worse. But, it's all an experience to learn from!

I really like the Summit so far - It's a bit bigger than my usual gear, and like 0.5 inches too long to fit in my keyboard tray on my desk. I like the layout of the controls, and I think it sounds great. Still early days, but I already sold some of the gear it was expecting to replace. It will be making more WeeklyBeat appearances!
