Sad Crumpled Skies

By alonemusic on February 7, 2016 2:42 pm

So.. I've been on a Bowie kick. and "Heroes" (the album) has really been on loop. The last track is a pretty funky "The Secret Life of Arabia". Wanting to not keep making space-y bollocks, I thought "Hey, maybe I could do something funky? Can't be that hard..."
No. It was hard. And went horribly wrong.
Here is an excerpt from a conversation this week:
"Hey, I've come up with a funky riff, check it"
"That is pretty funky, where is it going next?"
"I don't know?"
"Well, you know you are not that funky"
"But... Bowie did funky stuff"
"You are also not David Bowie. And never will be."

Anyway. By Sunday it had become a massive beast. I did however manage to get a track under 4 minutes, which is refreshing. Lots of Meeblip too. XXXX heart heart heart heart

Oh and I've been doing cover art for each WB track, because I obviously hate free time to play things like The Witness:

This came out really well. May not be funky but great layers and melody.  Well done.  I've been on a Bowie bender as well.  Mostly Scary Monsters album + Pin Ups and The Next Day.

Pin Ups is next on my Bowie list.. I really loved The Next Day when it came out, now a few tracks really stand out as classic, it's almost a shame Blackstar is so good as I think it'll overshadow Next Day in the long run. Scary Monsters is just heart heart all the way through.

Anyway, cheers!

This is a good one--and a good example of how you can achieve something good even if you don't hit what you were aiming at.  (Just declare success at what you did hit.)  And, well, none of us are Bowie,  though we can use Bowie for inspiration, which he wasn't able to do.

This song is an adventure.

pretty wink

Ahm... Not really funky, but quite beautiful track. It reminds me when I listen too much Vivaldi and go in front of the sequencer decided to be "barroque"... and end with a drony minimalistic downtempo track! wink

You've got a natural ear for catchy structures and melodies that never end to evolve and surprise. I'm sure ypu'll achieve funkyness the minute you don't think about it smile
