File This As A Test

Hey folks!
I hope 2024 is treating you ok so far.

So real talk, wasn't going to even try to join this year... life is just a Bit Too Much: The usual, time, work, other projects, family, actually not being burned out etc...

This, along with my music 'studio' (ie all my nice cuddly game boys, NES, knobs I like to twiddle) is all packed up, interface is.. somewhere, guitars are in cases and cables are, frankly missing...

So, why is there still a track here?

Well.. I really, REALLY pushed myself last time, to a point where I didn't do anything remotely musical the past year. And that made me a bit sad.

This year, well.. I just wanna dip in and out. I've only got Ableton, which I don't really know how to use that well, so I thought why not twiddle with some presets? Explore somethings I don't usually have time for, not being afraid to make mistakes, or just things that I don't have to hang a name on, or release to the world as complete 'things'.

So there probably won't be art to go along with things, and tracks might just be exploring one or two ideas or sounds... And I won't be sad if I miss a week or two, or even the rest of the year, becasue at least I've had a bit of fun these last couple of days noodling this out.

I hope y'all have a blissed out, creative year. I missed this, even if it was quite the marathon last time. heart heart heart heart heart

Nice synthwave jam!

That tom(?) fill is so good. Really positive energy all around.

nice track! big energy, makes my head bop, goes different places, it's pretty amazing all things considered.

from what you write it sounds like a classic case of burnout. I have a tiny post-it somewhere on my desk saying "what is fun about music?" that I needed to see last year a few times to remember to twiddle around and rediscover the joy of playing music. maybe you need the same, cause one can hear you love making it from your tracks. hope you find the joy in it again, and thanks for sharing!

I am glad that you chose to join again in 2024! It sounds like your fantastic output in 2022 lead to a near burnout. Be kind to yourself and enjoy the ride. You might consider that track to be just a doodle but it's a really fun track with a lot of synthwave energy. I'm headbopping into the Wednesday along this. The composition and mixes are flawless. Take it easy and I hope we'll get a lot more tracks from you! smile

Hey! It's cool to see you popping back in this year. Definitely take those breaks if you need to but don't be a stranger! I'm in the same boat where I didn't really do a lot musically last year. The cool thing with what you're doing is tinkering and exploring and finding that next big thing that sparks something in you. This is a pretty impressive tune considering your limited knowledge in ableton. Looking forward to whatever comes next smile

i dig it! glad you are giving it a go. some years i just drop out. but this year i feel like i have a good chance and am in the right place to have a chance.

I'm so glad you gave it a shot at least, it's still really good even when you're not trying to make anything special and just explore.
You just got that good ear.

Yes, you can solve so much with a cheeky tom fill

Absolutely, I went straight from WB22 into a big event project, then into a big publishing project, all alongside my job.. it was a lot. I'm hoping this year is more chill, but I can already see big things on the horizon..

Good luck this year! It's ok to drop out if you want, but enjoy things while they last smile

Thanks buddy, I hope there will be a chance to get my full setup out and make big noise, but otherwise yeah, the idea is to relax!
