On the Right Path

I am quite pleased with this week's work. Throughout all these weeks I've been experimenting with setups, starting from just virtual modular and very random-based patterns to more intricate textures and composing, improvising with actual instruments and multi-layer jamming. I am slowly starting to feel "at home" with my current one, so this is one of the first pieces that has a "base" constructed with virtual modular (in this case on iPad which is also an effect unit) on top of which I added parts with Volca Keys, Volca Drums, Arturia Microfreak, a wooden flute and bass guitar. I did use a DAW this time to mix all the layers but each one is a single take improv.

the flute is so good.

Very cool how you did it as multiple improvs, I'd like to try that some time.  What was the recording order?

Definitely a fine trail. Great choice of instruments, though considering its length, you could've added some more.

I really love how the flute fits there. It is a sound we don't hear too often in that kind of piece but it works very very well. Is that an actual flute you recorded?

Favorited this one.

Thanks all!

First I did the "groove" (which also contains a melody) on the iPad, inside the Drambo app. I created a number of patterns and then I added the Volca Drum on top to spice the rhythm. I usually then add the Freak and the Keys with solo like lines and arpeggios, and the flute is at the very end, I improvise listening to the whole thing in the background.

You are right, but recently I've had less and less time for music so I tend to rush the process, but at the same time still going long like I usually tend to.

Yes, it's 5 hole shepherd's flute, also known as a caval (or kaval in other parts of Europe). It has a lower timbre than the usual wooden flute and is tuned to the first tones of the A minor scale (roughly).
